Planio is a company of LAUNCH/CO GmbH, located in Berlin Germany. LAUNCH/CO's Managing Director and CEO is Jan Shulz-Hofen. Per compete.com, traffic to the site is erratic, ranging between 400 and 1,900 unique visitors per month.
The app shared a name with Planio beta - a project management tool that has recently changed its name to Planbox, presumably to avoid confusion.
If the user chooses to leave Planio, they simply need to contact them prior to cancellation to obtain a free SQL data export of the user's entire database. Data import from third party platforms may be able to be imported free of charge. Users simply need to contact Planio.
Planio has recently launched Planio apps, which integrates additional features and establishes interfaces to extend functionality.
The first step is to set up a default configuration in the administration section. Users may use the default configuration and then customize later. This makes sense as the user can see the default and adjust to their own needs. The help menu walks the new user through the process of setting up the app.
The walkthrough with help menus on each page make the process very simple. Seasoned users can turn this function off. Creating a new project is simple with the provided template and checkboxes. Next, the user adds members using the easy entry instructions. New users receive information via email to join projects and have access dependent upon the permissions given.
The Activity tab shows the latest activity on any project. The Issues and New Issue tabs are for task management, assignment, and statuses. The News tab is for project-wide messaging. It may be used like an email list or for sending and commenting on information. The Documents tab allows publishing and reviewing of project-relevant documents. The Wiki tab takes users to a project wiki for management. Pages with links, text, images and tables may be created to share knowledge with the entire team. As a wiki, it can be constantly updated and maintain the latest news. The Forums tab has discussion forums for the job. Structured threads allow managers to oversee discussions and decisions taking place in regards to projects. The Files tab contains files related to the project that are not documents. The Repository tab is basically the main project folder that is maintained online in the cloud. It may be used to sync files between project members and clients. The Settings tab manages member privileges, etc.
The new Apps section provides an invoicing app for creating custom invoices, a prototype app for UI prototypes from the wiki. The Time Tracking app is for monitoring time spent on the project, EmailDropbox assigns a unique email to the project so that issues may be modified by sending or forwarding emails. The Exception Notifier increases efficiency with Ruby on Rails projects. It indicates exceptions in the system and updates issues in Planio.
Overall, Planio is relatively easy to use and has multiple help prompts. A full help file or FAQ menu would be very helpful. Clicking help leads to a contact form. It would be easier to have the help files searchable in one place.
Registration requires a name, domain preference, and valid email address. An email with login credentials is sent to the provided email. The email is immediate and contains link, username, and password.
